In Thiès, a simple dispute over the disappearance of a basket of vegetables has landed several members of the same family in court.
At the stand, the plaintiff, F. D. Fall, recounted the circumstances of the altercation. She explained that upon returning from the market, she had placed her basket of vegetables in the kitchen. When she later went to cook, she discovered they were missing. Suspecting her sister-in-law, B. Fall, she confronted her for an explanation.
According to her, the situation quickly escalated. She claims that B. Fall violently attacked her, hitting her with a broom, knocking her to the ground, and then beating her. F. D. Fall also alleges that A. Guèye, her husband's sister, incited her sister-in-law B. Fall and B. Fall's daughter, T. Fall, to assault her. She further states she was subjected to insults, with the defendants calling her a "prostitute" and hurling other abuses at her.
She adds that these assaults caused her injuries resulting in a temporary work disability (ITT) of 7 days.
At the stand, the three defendants presented different versions of events. B. Fall acknowledged an altercation but offered a different account. According to her, it was the plaintiff who accused her of theft and insulted her, thereby triggering the fight. She admits to knocking her down but denies intentionally beating her.
A. Guèye rejected the accusations, disputing that she gave any instructions to assault the plaintiff. Her daughter, T. Fall, also denied any involvement in the violence. She claims she intervened only to separate the two women, not to participate in the brawl.
The public prosecutor deemed the charges against the defendants consistent and sufficiently established based on the case file and courtroom debates. Consequently, he requested custodial sentences: 15 days for A. Guèye and B. Fall, and 20 days for T. Fall.
The verdict will be delivered on April 20, 2026.
