A 49-year-old bricklayer, A. Diouf, has been sentenced to two months in prison by the Thiès district court for intentional assault and battery, as well as death threats.
According to a collective complaint filed by several family members, he violently assaulted his niece, S. Faye, to the point of rendering her unconscious, and also issued threats and hurled insults at his mother, N. Sarr.
The family further claims that he had previously exhibited violent behavior toward other relatives in the past.
In court, A. Diouf admitted to beating his niece, explaining that he had "disciplined" her after she soiled his t-shirt. However, he denied the alleged violence and threats against his mother and other family members.
The public prosecutor deemed the facts established and called for the application of the law. The court subsequently sentenced him to two months in prison.
