Un mois de prison ferme pour le vol insolite de... 2 000 FCFA dans un bar
The Thiès court sentenced A. Thiaw, a 19-year-old apprentice driver, to one month in prison for stealing 2,000 FCFA. The theft occurred in Touba Peycouck, in the Thiès department, and involved a bartender named M. Ndione.
According to the investigation, the young man allegedly broke into the bar and stole the cash from the register. He is also accused of causing property damage by breaking beer bottles.
In court, the defendant admitted to taking the 2,000 FCFA and breaking bottles, but denied breaking into the bar. He explained that he had gone there to drink alcohol and, after becoming heavily intoxicated, fell asleep in the bar. According to his version of events, the managers closed the establishment without noticing he was there. Upon waking, he tried to leave and attempted to climb out, but fell on some beer crates, causing the damage observed.
Despite these explanations, the public prosecutor considered that the theft offence was sufficiently established and requested the application of the law.
Following the prosecution's recommendations, the court found A. Thiaw guilty of theft and sentenced him to one month of imprisonment.
