1ère édition des African Media Awards : Moustapha Toumbou de Seneweb parmi les finalistes
African journalistic excellence will be celebrated in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on December 4, 2025, at the inaugural African Media Awards. This groundbreaking event aims to further elevate the standards of journalism and audiovisual production across the continent.
The ceremony will recognize the "most outstanding media productions of the year" in categories including news reports, investigative documentaries, interviews, narrative productions for social media, among others.
Senegal will be honorably represented with the report "Diokhor Island: Oasis in Distress on Lake Guiers," produced by Seneweb journalist Moustapha Toumbou. This work was selected as one of the three finalists in the "Best Report on African Nature" category.
"This distinction highlights the quality and impact of the work done to raise public awareness of local and African environmental issues," it was emphasized.
This initiative (African Media Awards) is supported by several leading pan-African institutions, including the African Union of Broadcasting (AUB), as well as major foundations dedicated to the memory of historical African figures such as Patrice Emery Lumumba, Kwame Nkrumah, Mwalimu Nyerere, and Kenneth Kaunda. Partner organizations like the Sisulu Foundation for Social Justice and the PLO Lumumba Foundation are also participating in the event.
Thus, the finalists and winners will benefit from major advantages. The “Golden Alkebulan” trophy accompanied by a $6,000 prize for the winners, a $2,000 reward for the finalists, and full support to participate in the high-level gala in Addis Ababa for the three nominees in each of the nine categories.
The organizers have therefore stated that with the African Media Awards, Africa intends not only to celebrate its talents, but also to strengthen its media influence on the international stage.
