Amadou & Mariam : comment le duo mythique réalisait ses chansons
In an interview with Le Soleil, Mariam, of the famous Malian duo Amadou & Mariam, spoke emotionally about the passing of her husband, Amadou, while also discussing their artistic journey and the documentary "Amadou and Mariam: Sounds of Mali", which premiered in Dakar.
The artist confides that she is "very happy to be in Dakar," a city she considers a "family" and a "brother country." She explains that this film retraces their story "from our meeting at the Institute for Blind Youth until today," while deeply regretting that it is being released "without Amadou."
Mariam acknowledges that going on stage alone remains "very difficult". To help her continue this adventure, she is now accompanied by her son, whose presence gives her "strength" and ensures the continuity of his father's work.
Speaking about their working method, she says that they each composed on their own before building their songs together, in a relationship based on "love and artistic respect", without a spirit of competition.
Finally, Mariam paid a heartfelt tribute to her husband: "my husband, my partner, my friend, my confidant." Despite his absence, she affirmed that she would continue to keep their musical legacy alive: "everything I do, I do with him in my heart."
