Sidiki Jobarteh lance son premier single, la relève de Sona Jobarteh est assurée !
His mother needs no introduction in Africa and the rest of the world. Sidiki Jobarteh is following in the footsteps of his mother, Sona Jobarteh, a world-renowned professional kora player.
Talented like his mother, balafon player Sidiki Jobarteh is now launching his music career after several years of apprenticeship alongside her, who introduced him to traditional instruments. The young artist is releasing his debut single, "Chosaano," in which he celebrates his heritage. A true griot from the great Diabaté lineage—known as Jobarteh in Gambia—the art of singing comes naturally to Sidiki. He has also spent many years accompanying his mother as a balafon player on some of the world's greatest stages.
Sona Jobarteh is overjoyed to see her son release his first project and expresses her pride. According to her, it is an immense legacy that her son must cherish and make good use of, as it is an invaluable asset passed down from mother to son within the Diabaté family, considered a great dynasty of griots in West Africa.
Released this Saturday, April 11, the song is written and composed by Sidiki Jobarteh himself, with the unwavering support of his mother who provided backing vocals to enhance the level of the production.
Furthermore, Sidiki Jobarteh is related to the great kora virtuoso, the late Toumani Diabaté, who was his mother's cousin. This long lineage, stretching from Gambia to Mali, works to restore the history and tradition of the Mandinka Empire as griots and guardians of the temple.
