RTS : Le bras de fer se durcit entre l'intersyndicale et Pape Alé Niang
In a statement received by Seneweb today, the Synpics-Synpap inter-union group of the Senegalese Radio and Television Broadcasting (RTS) strongly denounced what it calls a "new attempt at intimidation" against its members. Several union members were summoned this Thursday, March 5, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., to the Urban Security division of the Central Police Station in Dakar.
This summons follows a complaint filed by Thierno Niang's brother, the latter being presented as the "Messi of events" by his older brother, Pape Alé Niang, current Director General of RTS.
The inter-union group considers this legal procedure a maneuver aimed at silencing workers' representatives. It strongly reiterates that pressure and threats will not weaken their commitment. "The workers are determined to defend their rights and their dignity," the union organization emphasized.
Beyond the police summons, the statement highlights a situation deemed irregular within the national broadcaster. The inter-union group denounces the presence, which it considers "provocative," of Pape Alé Niang's brother at RTS headquarters, as well as his involvement in major events covered by the public broadcaster. According to the union representatives, this situation constitutes a "blatant conflict of interest" that undermines the management of the institution.
In conclusion, the joint union committee reaffirms its unwavering commitment to the principles of freedom of association, respect for workers' rights, and the preservation of a peaceful working environment. It calls on all RTS employees to demonstrate active solidarity and full support for the colleagues targeted by this complaint.
