Oussouye is preparing to pay a final tribute to its son, the national and international judo champion, Master Ankiling Diabone, and to accompany him with dignity to his final resting place. Having passed away on November 20, 2025, at the Peace Hospital in Ziguinchor, the body of the four-time African judo champion will be taken from the morgue of the Ziguinchor Regional Hospital this Saturday, November 29, followed by his burial in Oussouye, his hometown.

Ankiling, meaning "the rock" in the local Kassa language, symbolizes strength and stability. He was one of the most decorated judokas in Africa. His legendary and devastating uchi-mata felled the greatest opponents of his generation. Judokas from Casamance, Senegal, and beyond will be able to pay their final respects to the master of the tatami.

Born in 1955 in Oussouye, Ankiling Diabone had an exceptional career. After his studies carried out between Oussouye and Thiès, before joining the CNEPS of Thiès, he obtained a scholarship from the French cooperation and furthered his studies at the INSEP in Paris, obtaining diplomas as a coach and sports educator.

Returning to Senegal in 1981, Ankiling Diabone became a regional technical advisor and member of the Momar Dieng national dojo, where his talent blossomed. Between 1979 and 1990, he dominated the national championship (-86 kg), accumulating nearly ten Senegalese championship titles, according to the numerous publications recounting his career since the announcement of his death.

Ankiling has always demanded recognition from the authorities for services rendered to the nation, especially for the athletes of the department of Oussouye, which has given more champions to Senegal in several fields, as he has always liked to remind people.

His death will certainly provoke this surge of support from the authorities in homage to the man, to give more consideration to these sons of Casamance who raised the national flag all over the world.

    Rest in peace, champ !
