Deuil : Le football sénégalais et francilien pleurent la perte de Mallo Diallo
Former Senegalese striker Mallo Diallo has died of stomach cancer at the age of 46. Top scorer in the National league in 2003, he spent almost his entire career in France, where he arrived in 1999, making a particularly strong impression in the Paris region.
The football community in the Île-de-France region is in mourning. Mallo Diallo, a former Senegalese player who played for numerous clubs in the region, has passed away at the age of 46. His death occurred on March 1st, but only a few people were aware of it, as revealed by Le Parisien. "He didn't want anyone to know about his illness. He passed away in anonymity, but that was his wish," explains his former teammate at Racing, Kader Seydi. "He was so kind and good; I've lost my little brother. I'm going to have a hard time getting over it."
A career marked by talent and humility
Trained at the Aldo Gentina center in Dakar, Mallo Diallo spent almost his entire career in French clubs, with the exception of two years (2005-2007) in Portugal with Penafiel (Portuguese Second Division). While the former striker also played in Ligue 2 in France with Amiens (2003-2004), he truly made his mark during his time at Dijon (2002-2003), finishing the season as the top scorer in the National league and leaving his mark on numerous amateur clubs in the Paris region.
It was only at the beginning of the week that news of his death spread among his former clubs. "He was someone who left a lasting impression on us because he was a fantastic player, a fantastic teammate, and a fantastic guy," said Smaïl Bouabdellah, his former teammate at Racing—where the Senegalese player had three stints—and now a journalist for Ligue 1+. "We can only be saddened to learn that he passed away under these circumstances, even if it was his wish," added Mehdi Merrouche, who played ten seasons with him, including the last one at La Garenne-Colombes in 2016, which culminated in promotion to Régional 1.
Unanimous tributes
Reactions are pouring in from his former clubs. "It is with deep sadness that we learned of the passing of our former player Mallo Diallo. We will remember his exceptional talent as a player, a goalscorer, a teammate, but above all as a kind man, always smiling," reacted the La Garenne-Colombes club on Instagram.
For its part, ASM Chambourcy, where Mallo Diallo served as head coach of the U8-U9 category, also paid tribute to him: "We will remember him as a passionate, dedicated person who was always kind to his players. His commitment, his kindness, and his love of football will remain etched in our memories."
Buried in Dakar, the former player leaves behind three children and his wife, who is five months pregnant.
