In Memoriam : Hommage à Mamadou Badio Camara, un an après son décès

Senegal remembers. This April 10, 2026, marks the first anniversary of the passing of Mamadou Badio Camara, former President of the Constitutional Council. One year after leaving office, this pillar of the rule of law leaves behind the memory of a man of duty whose absence "remains deeply felt" within his family and the nation.

The kind-hearted man behind the magistrate's robe

Beyond the high-ranking positions he held with "honor, rigor, and integrity," the tribute paid by his loved ones portrays a man whose light "continues to illuminate" the lives of those he knew. For his family, Mamadou Badio Camara was not only a public figure, but a "loving father, a reassuring husband, a steadfast anchor."

The memorial message underscores the difficulty of filling the void left by someone deemed "irreplaceable" by nature. "You are not someone who can be replaced, nor a void that can be filled," writes his family, bearing witness to a pain that, although tempered by faith, remains raw: "There are no tears harder to shed than those that flow not from the eyes, but from the heart."

A historic role for Senegalese democracy

Mamadou Badio Camara's career will forever be inextricably linked to the recent political history of Senegal. As President of the Constitutional Council, he was the scrupulous guardian of the institutions during times of high tension.

His leadership was particularly decisive during the last presidential election. Amid institutional crises and uncertainty surrounding the electoral calendar, Badio Camara played a key role in ensuring respect for the Constitution. Under his presidency, the Council's decisions resolved the deadlock and ensured a regular electoral process, thereby consolidating the country's democratic stability.

A living memory

Today, as prayers rise for him to be welcomed "among the chosen of Paradise," his intellectual and moral legacy continues to serve as a compass. His family is committed to keeping his memory alive through "respect for his teachings, his values, and his humanity."

Mamadou Badio Camara has not passed away; he has become integrated in a different way into the life of a nation that owes him so much. As this poignant tribute emphasizes: "Your memory will live on through each of our actions, each of our choices."
