L’Ucad rend hommage au Pr Moustapha Tamba
Professor Moustapha Tamba, a renowned socio-anthropologist, passed away yesterday. In a post, the Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar, where he worked as a lecturer and researcher until his retirement, paid tribute to an emblematic figure.
"Much more than a teacher, he was a mentor, a visionary, and a builder, combining scientific rigor, multidisciplinary openness, and profound humanity. His work on crises, uncertainties, and social dynamics, marked by exceptional lucidity and empathy, inspired generations of students and researchers," wrote UCAD.
Moreover, an international conference on uncertainties in crisis contexts was dedicated to it in January 2023. This event, according to Ucad, demonstrated its ability to question contemporary challenges by inviting reflection, innovation and resilience.
"He leaves a precious legacy: enlightening research, exemplary kindness and availability, as well as a strengthening of links between disciplines, institutions and generations, making UCAD a place of knowledge and solidarity."
Moustapha Tamba was recruited around 1994 to the Philosophy Department (sociology section). He quickly rose through the ranks to become a full professor of exceptional class, says his colleague Professor Souleymane Gomis, also a sociologist. "He is the author of more than one hundred articles and fifteen internationally renowned scientific works. (...) Professor TAMBA has always graced the scientific community with his fine writing by examining original issues both nationally and internationally," recalls Gomis.
Professor Tamba is one of the pioneers of the Dakar School of Sociology. He was head of the sociology department, director of the journal of sociology, anthropology and psychology, and director of the annals of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, which he directed for several years.
"On a human and social level, Professor Moustapha TAMBA is part of this last breed of chalk-in-hand teacher-researchers. He loves explaining paradigms and concepts to students by schematically outlining their dimensions or components, their indicators and indices before proceeding to the very formulation of the questions that will constitute the investigation questionnaire. He is an excellent, rigorous and sharp methodologist with an international reputation," added Souleymane Gomis.

Paix a son âme. Un homme discret, courroux et plein d'humanité
C'est avec une profonde tristesse que je viens d'apprendre la disparition de Moustapha. Hier c'était Balla Tamba et aujourd'hui c'est Moustapha tamba. deux merveilleuses personnes que j'ai eu l'honneur de connaitre A Lyon durant les années 80. La famille estudiantine de Lyon des annees 80 ou nous formions une seule et grande famille est aujourd'hui en deuil. Que a terre leur soit légére et que le bon dieu les accueille dans son paradis.😭

Triste nouvelle. Pendant tout mon cursus, M. Tamba a été présent en tant que professeur et en tant qu'encadreur pour mon mémoire de maîtrise et de DEA. Généreux, il aimait partager ses connaissances avec les jeunes étudiants que nous étions (y compris l'actuel chef du département de sociologie).
Que la terre lui soit légère et que le Paradis soit sa demeure éternelle.
l'ucad a perdu tellement d'enseignants ces dernières années : les charges de travail sont très très lourdes
en plus une fois que l'enseignant part à la retraite, il n'arrive même plus à s'assurer un minimum pour sa santé personnelle
or ce sont les enseignants du supérieur qui ont formé tout le monde: hommes politiques, journalistes, juges, médecins, homme d'affaires, bref tous !
Moustapha Tamba, doux et très serviable, paix à son âme!
