Kalidou Koulibaly prépare sa reconversion : « J’ai décidé de reprendre les études à 34 ans »
Will Kalidou Koulibaly follow in Demba Ba's footsteps? At 34, the Lions' captain is preparing for a career change into sports management. The Al Hilal center-back has revealed that he resumed his studies last year.
“I decided to go back to school last year. I’m doing a Bachelor’s degree in sports management in Italian, because I find it easy after playing in Italy for eight years. Thanks to LUISS, which is one of the most popular universities in Italy, I’m taking a correspondence course and it’s going really well so far. I take the courses at my own pace, when I can. I’m happy with what I’m doing,” Kalidou Koulibaly said in an interview with streamer Zack Nani.
The Senegalese defender, who has invested in training, with the opening of a center to help his young compatriots, is training to understand the contours of decision-making among football leaders.
“I’m in my field, football, and I’ve always liked to understand what I was doing, whether it’s on a financial, economic, or business level. I like to understand everything I do, and this (his studies) has allowed me to understand how a club works, my job, the people who employ me. So, it’s gratifying, and there are many things I’ve learned. Now, I know why clubs, presidents, and administrators act the way they do. I’ve broadened my perspective,” Koulibaly adds.
The 2022 African champion hopes to surpass his compatriot Demba Ba, whose transition into sports management was a success at Dunkirk. Appointed director of football in 2023, he led the French club to the semi-finals of the Coupe de France last year, where they were eliminated by PSG, and came very close to promotion to Ligue 1. Dunkirk reached the relegation playoffs but were ultimately defeated by Metz.
