The dismissal of Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko has sparked reactions on the Senegalese political scene. In Sédhiou, the municipal secretariat of the Senegalese Democratic Party issued a statement through its municipal secretary general, Mamadou Mané.

According to him, this separation between President Bassirou Diomaye Faye and his now former Prime Minister comes as no surprise to anyone. "Everyone knew that the two men were going to separate. The only unknown was the timing," he stated.

For Mamadou Mané, in a presidential system, executive power must remain embodied by a single authority. He believes that the repeated disagreements between the two leaders had ultimately created unease at the highest levels of government. "The duality and the power struggles between the two men had gone on for too long. They were only postponing the inevitable," he argues.

The local PDS official believes this break had become essential to restoring harmony in the conduct of public affairs. "The Republic must have a single voice, a single symphony carried by the one who legitimately holds the universal suffrage of the Senegalese people," he asserts.

Referring to the former Prime Minister's recent media appearance, Mamadou Mané believes it already revealed "a deep unease" within the executive branch. He specifically mentions disagreements on certain legal cases and on the management of state power.

"If the president speaks in one direction and the prime minister in another, there is a breakdown of the coherence of the state. In a government where ministers attack the prime minister and the prime minister criticizes the president, there is no longer any orthodoxy in the hierarchy," he added.

The local secretary general of the PDS party in Sédhiou thus commended the President's "political courage" for ending this situation. He now calls for the formation of a new government "capable of meeting economic challenges, restoring confidence with financial partners, and sending positive signals back to Senegal's public finances."
