Affaire Softcare : Le gouvernement brise le silence !
After several weeks of controversy and anticipation, the Minister of Health and Public Hygiene, Ibrahima Sy, has broken his silence. He will address the press this Thursday, March 5, 2026, in Dakar to speak about the so-called "Softcare" affair, a case that has stirred public opinion since the end of 2025, according to his office.
A health alert sparked the scandal
The case concerns the Senegalese subsidiary of the Chinese group Sunda International, which specializes in the manufacture of hygiene products, including baby diapers and sanitary napkins.
In early December 2025, the Senegalese Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (ARP) alerted healthcare professionals to "the presence of expired raw materials in the manufacturing process […] of products intended for babies, children, and women." This announcement caused considerable concern among families.
Initially, a withdrawal of the products from the market had been mentioned, before the agency reversed this decision, citing the continuation of further investigations.
This reversal has fueled controversy and raised questions about the handling of the case. Commissions of inquiry have been established to determine the facts and assign responsibility. Their conclusions, announced for early February, have not yet been made public, further fueling criticism and speculation.
For its part, Softcare claims to be fully cooperating with the authorities and rejects any accusations calling into question the quality or safety of its products.
