Abdou Aziz Mbaye, better known as Aziz Mame Fama, has passed away, leaving behind an immense void in the cultural and memorial landscape of Senegal.
An economic expert with a degree in communications and a respected figure in oral heritage, Aziz Mame Fama embodied the elegance of knowledge and the nobility of transmission. His commitment to promoting stories, symbols, and traditions made him a discreet but essential pillar of collective memory.
Among the many voices that have been raised to pay tribute to him is that of Dr. Massamba Guèye, himself a storyteller and man of letters. In a saddened obituary, he wrote: "Rest in peace, dear brother Abdou Aziz Mbaye. Maam Fama, economic expert, graduate in communications, man of cultured and elegant heritage. You will be missed by this country and by the community of guardians of our memory. May paradise be your eternal home, Taalibe Cheikh! Amiin."
Aziz Mame Fama was one of the most iconic broadcasters during major traditional wrestling matches, particularly those broadcast on TFM. His voice, style, and knowledge of cultural codes made him a benchmark for fans of the sport.
