Décès d’Amadou Katy Diop : L’émouvant témoignage de Gris Bordeaux
Former wrestling champion Amadou Katy Diop was buried yesterday in the Muslim cemetery of Yoff, in the presence of many personalities from the world of sports and Senegalese wrestling.
Among those who came to pay their last respects was Gris Bordeaux, 3rd Tiger of Fass, who paid tribute to the memory of a man he considers one of the leading figures in Senegalese sport.
Visibly moved, the leader of the Fass team recalled the human and professional qualities of the deceased. "Amadou Katy Diop was an upright man, a good Muslim who scrupulously respected the precepts of Islam," he testified.
Gris Bordeaux also highlighted the deceased's commitment to developing young talent. He specifically recalled that Amadou Katy Diop had recently served as coach for the youth category at the Youth Olympic Games, a role entrusted to him by the Senegalese National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSS).
Gris Bordeaux also highlighted the deceased's rich sporting career. "A renowned champion in Greco-Roman wrestling, Amadou Katy Diop proudly represented Senegal on the international stage before establishing himself as a respected figure in the Senegalese arena. After his retirement from sports, he created the Ndakaru stable, a true breeding ground for talent from which several big names in Senegalese wrestling emerged, notably Yakhya Diop 'Yékini', one of the most iconic champions in the history of the arena," he said.
He concluded his remarks by emphasizing that "Senegal has lost a great figure in sport today. May God welcome him into his eternal paradise. Peace to his soul."
With the passing of Amadou Katy Diop, the Senegalese sporting world loses an accomplished champion, a respected coach and a man whose legacy will continue to inspire several generations of wrestlers.
