Criminalization of homosexuality: Imam Tafsir Babacar Ndiour denounces the authorities' failure to respect their commitments
The crisis of values in Senegal, the disrespect of our institutions by some untrained and uneducated deputies, a two-tiered justice system, the high standard of living of the State, the failure of the authorities to respect the commitments on the criminalization of homosexuality, are all subjects on the agenda of the sermon of the Imam ratib of the great mosque Moussanté of Thiès.
Tafsir Babacar Ndiour led the Eid al-Fitr prayer this Saturday, March 21, 2026. In front of former Prime Minister Idrissa Seck, and alongside several other dignitaries from Thiès, Imam Ndiour also addressed, with a touch of sadness, the abuses on social media, pointing to certain behaviors observed online. He condemned the attitudes of individuals presenting themselves as influencers and others who excessively engage in negative rhetoric.
The religious leader expressed his outrage at the disrespectful remarks directed at certain high-ranking officials, such as the President of the Republic, an institution that must be treated with great respect and consideration. He also addressed the questionable behavior of some members of parliament, criticizing the selection process for certain elected officials who lack experience and knowledge of public affairs, and therefore should not hold certain positions.
The religious leader also addressed the issue of the use of certain types of financial resources, such as the 20% levy on gambling and alcohol sales, among others. He expressed his disapproval of their involvement in public administration.
