Dialogue des cœurs au Vatican : Le pape Léon XIV célèbre le « miracle sénégalais » avec le khalife de Bambilor
Beneath the majestic vaults of the Apostolic Palace, the meeting took on the character of a true plea for fraternity among peoples and religions. Through this audience, the Holy See commended the Senegalese tradition of living together, held up as an example in a world confronted with identity tensions and cultural divides.
During their discussions, the Pope praised the Caliph of Bambilor's unwavering commitment to peace and reconciliation between religious communities. Pope Leo XIV specifically described Senegal as "an exemplary land of dialogue," highlighting the unique character of a nation where Muslims and Christians have cultivated active fraternity for generations.
The Holy Father also stressed the importance of the agreement signed with the Vatican dicasteries, presenting it as a "historic step forward" for international spiritual cooperation.
For Rome, this initiative goes far beyond protocol: it symbolizes a common vision based on peace, solidarity and mutual respect.
The composition of the Senegalese delegation that came to the Vatican perfectly illustrated the religious harmony for which the country is renowned. Alongside Thierno Amadou Ba were, notably, the Archbishop of Dakar, Monsignor André Guèye, and Father Zacharie Ndione of the Congregation of the Holy Ghost Fathers. This highly symbolic presence testifies to the strength of the Christian-Muslim dialogue in Senegal.
The academic world was also represented by Dr. Demba Thilel Diallo from the University of Dakar, who reminded everyone that promoting peace also involves the transmission of knowledge, research and the education of new generations.
One of the highlights of this meeting will remain the exchange of gifts between the two personalities, under the gaze of the Ambassador of Senegal to the Holy See, H.E. Isidore Sène.
As an official gift, the Caliph of Bambilor presented Pope Leo XIV with an impressive 17 kg bronze lion, adorned in the Senegalese national colors. More than just a work of art, this lion represents the dignity, sovereignty, and moral strength of the Senegalese people.
Through this gesture, Senegal wanted to send a strong message to the world: that of a nation deeply committed to peace, faith and universal brotherhood.
Upon leaving Rome, the Senegalese delegation thus takes away much more than a protocol recognition: it leaves with the confirmation that the "Senegalese miracle" remains a source of global inspiration for peace between peoples.
