Mawlid-Al-Naby : De Tivaouane à Ndiassane, en passant par Thiénaba, Keur Mame El Hadji Ndiéguene…
The holy cities of Tivaouane, Ndiassane, Thiénaba, Keur Mame El Hadji Ndiéguene, Keur Cheikh Ibra Fall, among others, continue to welcome several million Muslim faithful, for the 2025 edition of Mawlid-Al-Naby or Gamou celebrating the anniversary of the birth of the Prophet Muhammad Rassoulilah (PSL). A perfect illustration of the effectiveness of a "brotherhood capital" that constitutes the Thiès region, which offers the world an example of stability and peaceful community coexistence within the overwhelming Muslim majority.
Muslims who are not of the same brotherhood, but live their Islam in peace and harmony with the teachings of the Holy Quran and the essence of the Muhammadan message. A "wealth" born from the brotherhood model embodied by eminent scholars of Islam, at a time when "not being Thiédo and being in Islam was so rare that it became a relevant distinctive trait", who ended up establishing, in a permanent and constructive way, intra-religious and interreligious dialogue.
These are men of God who revealed themselves to the animists, of the caliber of the founder of the village of Ndiassane, Cheikh Bouh Kounta, who made the Muslim religion known and brought back to Islam a considerable number of followers, of the founder of the first institution of higher education in Senegambia: "The University of Pire", in the 17th century in Kajoor (Cayor), Omar Fall (1555-1638), better known under the name of Xaali Amar Faal, was a prince descended from Decce Fundjoogu, first damel (king) of independent Kajoor. There is also Tafsir El Hadji Ahmadou Barro Ndiéguène of Keur Mame Al Hadji of Thiès, born in Kassass, in Kaffrine, in 1825 and recalled to God in 1936, was a scholar of Islam who recited the Koran seven times. A man of God of exceptional dimension, peaceful, he strongly participated in the Islamization of Thiès, the rebellious and the pagan.
In accordance, moreover, with the philosophy of the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) who imposed on all Muslims, on the entire community, the duty to propagate the truth and convert the infidels. Muslims designate this proselytism by the word "DAWA" which literally means call, incitement, invitation to the Islamic faith. When asked what attracted them to the said area, many Islamologists agree on one cause: "The very dense presence of the "Thiedos"". They explain that "the Thiès region is almost the capital, the bastion of Thiédoism.
As a result, religious men, the sheikhs, in their drive for Islamization, were very interested in the Cayor empire." This explains the presence of many sheikhs in the Cayor region, notes Arabic professor Ismaïla Diop, who recalls that "the Al Kountiyyou family first settled in the Cayor region, before expanding to include the city of Ndiassane." He notes "a little further back in the city of Thiès, but still in the Cayor region, the arrival of the Ndiéguene family in Keur Mame Al Hadji and Sheikh Ibrahima Fall, sent to Thiès by Serigne Touba."
Not forgetting the Seck family of Thiénaba, which forms the junction between Cayor and Baol. This is now, he notes, "what allowed them to establish ardent centers in the Cayor region that they managed to cover." And that "it was in this logic of covering that El Hadji Maodo of Tivaouane went to the depths of Cayor to also create the city of Diacksao." And all of them preached with persuasive eloquence and carried out massive conversions in the "Thiédo" environment, to end up having many followers over whom they had a lot of authority.
