Tivaouane- démarrage du «Buurd» ce dimanche 24 août : L’œuvre de l’Imam Boussairi exaltée en 10 chapitres
It is this Sunday, August 24, 2025, that the first session of "Buurd" is held, marking the beginning of the activities of the 2025 edition of the annual Gamou of Tivaouane or Mawlid Al Naby. "Buurd" sessions organized as a prelude to the Mawlid during the 10 nights preceding the day of 12 Rabi Al Awal, coinciding with the birth of the Prophet Mohamed (PSL), and which constitute a strong moment allowing the faithful of the Tidiane community to exalt the work of ten chapters of Imam Abu Abdallah Mouhamadoul ibn Saïd al-Boussairi, a great Egyptian saint and poet (1211-1294).
A work that includes several poems of religious inspiration, the most famous of which is the "Qasidat Al Burda" (poem of the cloak). A one-day break will be marked before the big day of the Gamou celebration. It is the appearance of the lunar crescent that marks the opening, for 10 days, of the "Buurd" organized as a prelude to the Gamou. Thus, the capital of the Tijaniyya, Tivaouane-La-Pieuse, begins to receive its first faithful who come from the four corners of Senegal and elsewhere to commemorate, in religious fervor, the birth of the Best of beings, the Prophet Seyyidinaa Mouhamad Rassoulilah (PSL), or Mawlid Al Naby.
Everywhere, already, at the level of the various "Zawiya", these temples of Allah which are the pride of the holy city, there is the effervescence of great moments of recollection, particularly in the mosques of Sheikh Al Seydi Khalifa Aboubacar Sy and El Hadji Maodo Malick Sy. A highlight which allows the faithful of the Tijane community to exalt the work of a dozen chapters of Imam Abou Abdallah Mouhamadoul ibn Saïd al-Boussairi.
A great man who lived in the 7th century of the Hegira (1211–1294), an Egyptian poet who wrote under the patronage of the "Vizier Ibn Hinna." With poems that are mainly of religious inspiration, the best known of which, the "poem of the cloak" (Qasidat al-Burda), is entirely dedicated to the praise of the Luminous Messenger (PBUH). This poem, considered "sacred" even during its author's lifetime, still occupies a special place within Islam today.
For the record, Sheikh Abu Abdallah Muhammadul ibn Said al-Boussairi, at a very young age, attended the classes of various traditionalists and Sufis. Hemiplegic, he made invocations for his healing while formulating the poem. When he had finished it, he saw, one night, in a dream the Prophet Seyyidinaa Muhammad (PBUH) passing his blessed hand over the paralyzed side of his body and throwing a cloak over him. When he awoke, he found himself completely cured of his illness. The poem then received the name Burda (The Cloak).
And, it is through this book, which includes 10 chapters and totals 160 verses, that the exhilarating work of Imam Boussairi enlists, in the spiritual thrill, from the appearance of the lunar crescent, thousands of followers of El Hadji Maodo Malick Sy for a period of 10 days, at the rate of one chapter to be read per day, during the night, in the mosques. The "Burd" is an invocation of the Prophet Seyyidinaa Mouhamad (Psl) but also songs dedicated to the Seal of the Prophets (PSL), allowing the Tidianes faithful to revisit the work and life of the Best of beings (PSL).
The Holy Man of Tivaouane, Maodo Malick, having written a book entitled: "Khilassou Jahab", retracing the life of the Prophet (PSL), from his birth until his return to God, many disciples thus think of a "spiritual companionship with the Best (PSL) of beings. Who transmitted to him the supernatural, extraordinary revelations about "Him", brought to the knowledge of humanity, among other creatures.
It is the veneration of Mouhamadoul Boussairi that constitutes the basis of the determination of the Holy Man of Tivaouane to meditate through the "Burd", from the appearance of the lunar crescent, during the first 10 days preceding the Mawlid, with, each night, the reading of a chapter of the book in question. The major innovation, in recent years, remains the "Burds" decentralized throughout the national territory.
