Interpol announced in a statement the arrest of more than 1,200 people in 18 African countries, following Operation Serengeti 2.0, which ran from June to August 2025 with support from the United Kingdom.
This major operation against cybercrime has dismantled networks specializing in online scams and cryptographic fraud, identified nearly 88,000 victims and recovered approximately $100 million.
Interpol emphasizes that these results are the result of international cooperation with local authorities and represent a serious blow to cybercriminals operating on a large scale in Africa. The organization calls on African governments to strengthen their response to a growing threat as the continent digitalizes.
