Kaffrine : Saisie et incinération de poulets et cuisses de poulet impropres à la consommation

A large seizure of meat products unfit for consumption was carried out in the Kaffrine region, thanks to a joint operation between the Departmental Livestock and Animal Production Service, the Regional Hygiene Sub-Brigade and the Nganda Hygiene Post.

According to Captain Ousmane Dione, head of the Kaffrine Regional Hygiene Service, the seizure involved 123 kg of chicken and 91 chicken thighs totaling 184 kg, with an estimated value of 426,000 CFA francs. These products, transported on motorcycle taxis in conditions that violated all sanitary standards, were intercepted after a surveillance operation that began in Nganda and ended in Kaffrine.

Tests revealed that the meat already showed signs of spoilage, making it unsafe for human consumption. Authorities therefore proceeded with its immediate incineration, in accordance with current food safety regulations.

Captain Dione commended the vigilance and professionalism of the Nganda post chief, whose prompt action thwarted this attempt to market unfit meat. He also thanked all the department heads involved for their collaboration in this public health protection effort.

The regional hygiene department and its partners are calling on the public to be more vigilant and responsible in their purchasing and consumption habits. Citizens are urged to check the storage conditions, transport, and origin of animal products before consuming them.

“We urge the public to avoid consuming uncontrolled products and to report any suspected cases to the relevant authorities. Public health is everyone’s responsibility,” Captain Dione reminded them.

This operation demonstrates the ongoing commitment of state services to combating the marketing of food products unfit for consumption, with a view to preserving the health and safety of the populations of Kaffrine and its surroundings.
