Fièvre de la vallée du Rift à Matam : 3 décès sur 8 cas confirmés avec 4 guérisons
Rift Valley fever has been raging since October 30, 2025 in the Matam region where, as part of syndromic surveillance with the 4S network (Sentinel Syndromic Surveillance System), a case was reported at the Agnam Civol health post (Thilogne health district), in the Matam department. To date, all departments in the region are affected by the disease, which is present in the four health districts: Thilogne, Matam, Kanel and Ranérou.
Of the 234 samples taken since the outbreak of the disease, 7 cases were reported as positive in the region, with 215 negative cases and 12 cases deemed non-compliant.
The table of monitoring of the epidemiological situation of the regional health directorate, informs that "04 positive cases were detected in the health district of Thilogne, 01 case in that of Matam and 02 cases in the health district of Kanel (detected at the EPS of Ourossogui).
In addition, 01 case falling under the health district of Ranérou, detected at the EPS (Public Health Establishment) of Linguère, located in the region of Louga, which brings the number of confirmed cases to 08 patients, among whom, 03 housewives and 02 shepherds.
As of October 15, the number of deaths stands at three (03) according to a report from the regional health directorate which provides information on "01 death of a confirmed case in the Kanel health district, 01 death of a confirmed case in that of Matam, and 01 case of death of a patient from the Richard Toll health district (…)". The same source reports that "four cases, including the one with hemorrhagic signs, from Ranérou followed at the EPS of Linguère, have recovered".
While two cases are currently under treatment, "no suspected cases awaiting results and no symptomatic contact cases are noted in the Matam DS.
A mobile unit from the Pasteur Institute of Dakar has been set up at the Matam regional hospital to investigate cases of RVF and Dengue fever.

La quarantaine consiste, en cas de foyer de maladie contagieuse, à interdire le mouvement du cheptel incriminé, de sortir du territoire infecté, dans un délai raisonnable de 15 à 40 jours suivant le degré de virulence de la maladie, surtout s'il s'agit d'une zoonose(animal à l'homme).
