Fièvre de la Vallée du Rift : le bilan passe à 10 décès
The Saint-Louis region has been hit hard by Rift Valley Fever (RVF). The disease continues to spread in the area despite numerous efforts by health authorities. According to the latest epidemiological report dated October 4, 2025 at 12:15 a.m., the situation remains worrying, with 10 deaths recorded since the start of the epidemic.
A total of 74 positive cases have been confirmed to date. Among them, 15 simple cases are being monitored at home, while 45 patients have been declared cured. Four people are currently hospitalized, including one in Ndioum and another in Saint-Louis.
Regional health services are facing a rapid spread of the virus, now present in all five health districts in the region. This situation is fully mobilizing medical teams and administrative authorities, determined to contain the disease and increase public awareness.
Rift Valley Fever, transmitted primarily by mosquitoes and contact with infected animals, poses a threat to both public health and the livestock sector.
Health authorities are calling for increased vigilance and reiterating preventive measures, including protection against mosquito bites and careful handling of animals.
As Saint-Louis experiences one of its strongest waves of RVF, the health emergency remains in place to prevent the epidemic from spreading to other regions of the country.
Moreover, the Ministers of Health and Livestock are expected this Saturday in Saint-Louis to provide an update on the health situation.
