Kaffrine : Des journalistes sensibilisés sur la vaccination contre le cancer du col de l’utérus pour atteindre un taux de 100%

The Kaffrine Regional Health Directorate organized a cervical cancer awareness event this Friday for about fifteen local media figures. The goal is to strengthen media engagement in promoting the vaccine for girls aged 9 to 14.

Head of the Regional Office for Health Education and Information, Sana Ndiaye, maintains that this activity is part of the sovereign missions of the Regional Health Directorate (DRS).

The cervical cancer vaccine is available in all health facilities in Senegal. It protects young girls against a disease that has been described as a "real public health problem." "The ministry has set a coverage target of 90%, but in the Kaffrine region, we are aiming for 100%," he says.

To date, first doses have already reached the target 90%. However, second doses are still lagging behind: "In the Birkilane health district, we are at 24%, Kaffrine at 47%, Koungheul at 52%, and Malem-Hodar at 79%. This is why we are appealing to parents to have their daughters vaccinated for the second dose," insisted the head of the regional office.

The meeting also served as a reminder that health facilities welcome all women who wish to know their status with regard to cervical cancer. They can benefit from consultations provided by qualified providers.

As Pink October approaches, the Regional Health Directorate is also announcing a major free screening campaign throughout the region. "In two weeks, we will begin this awareness month dedicated to breast and cervical cancer. All women will be able to benefit from it, free of charge. This is why we are now inviting communities to prepare for a major mobilization in October," said Sana Ndiaye.

The regional press is thus called upon to play its role as an information relay in order to encourage families to protect their daughters and to support women in this fight against cancer.

    Qui va sonner l'alerte ?

    ""Divers effets indésirables ont pu apparaître après la vaccination et lors des études cliniques. Elles révèlent un risque :

    de malaises et vertiges avec de possibles convulsions voire des syncopes peu de temps après l’injection ;
    de réactions locales comme des gonflements, des démangeaisons, des rougeurs ou des saignements ;
    de maux de tête ou de gorge ;
    de fièvre ;
    de troubles gastro-intestinaux tels des nausées, diarrhées ou douleurs abdominales.

    Au-delà de ces réactions qui pour la plupart sont habituelles après tout type de vaccin, d’autres effets plus graves ont été rapportés. Ce sont principalement des cas de maladies auto-immunes ou des maladies neurologiques : narcolepsie, hypersomnie, myofasciite à macrophages, thyroïdite auto-immune, sclérose en plaques, syndrome de fatigue chronique, syndrome de Guillain-Barré, maladie de Verneuil, encéphalomyélites aiguës.""
