Fight against HIV: Senegal rises to 2nd place worldwide among scientific contributors to AFRAVIH 2026

Senegal confirms its scientific leadership in the fight against HIV. At the 13th International Francophone Conference on HIV, Hepatitis and their Comorbidities (AFRAVIH 2026), held from May 4 to 7, 2026 in Lausanne, the country ranked 2nd in the world in terms of the number of scientific contributions. Led by the National AIDS Control Council (CNLS), the Senegalese delegation brings together researchers, experts, community stakeholders, and institutions involved in the response.

With 93 accepted scientific abstracts, Senegal ranks just behind Cameroon (193 contributions) and ahead of France (91 contributions), thus confirming the vitality and credibility of its research in the field.

This performance is part of a consistent trend: since 2018, Senegal has regularly ranked among the top two contributing countries to AFRAVIH conferences. This result is driven in particular by the CNLS's structuring efforts through scientific writing training workshops, the promotion of national data, and the regular organization of HIV Scientific Days. Beyond the figures, this presence illustrates a multi-sectoral national mobilization involving government agencies, universities, researchers, and community organizations, according to the Council's press release sent to Seneweb.

The document mentions that the work presented covers strategic themes, including the emergence of the virus and associated infections, the elimination of HIV and hepatitis B in countries of the South, innovations in diagnosis and treatment, maternal and child health, social vulnerabilities to HIV, screening and retention strategies, as well as issues related to PrEP and sexually transmitted infections.

Through this participation, Senegal reaffirms its position as a key player in the global response, relying on evidence, innovation, and equity to sustainably improve the impact of interventions. This momentum also opens up opportunities for capacity building, international partnerships, and alignment with best practices, all contributing to an increasingly effective and integrated response.

Je fais parti de ceux qui ont redige un article scientifique Le Sénégal est tres avancé dans la lutte contre le vih avec l’une des prévalence les plus faibles du monde 0,3% je me rappelle il yna klk annees on etait a 1,5% malgres cette forte baisse elle reste tres élevée chez certains groupe comme les professionnels du sexe 5,8%, les homosexuels 27%, les detenus 2,5%, il ya aussi les orpailleurs, les camionneurs, les transfrontaliers… Malheureusement dans ce pays ce qui doivent parler ne parlent pas ceux qui ne devaient pas parler occupent les ecrans et les micros. Ce phénomène actuel d’homosexualité aussi n’aide en rien aussi une bonne partie est suivie et sous traitement donc ne peuvent transmettre le virus apres aussi definir une transmission volontaire est trop technique et scientifique pas juste des mots etablir ce lien sera extrêmement difficile se liliter sur de simple accusations peut causer du tord a une bonne partie.( je doute pas et je ne nie pas que parmi eux il ya certains qui ont fait expres de transmettre le virus a d’autres)
