Pas de morgue, toilettes non fonctionnelles, l'eau quasi introuvable...: l'état inquiétant du centre de santé de Kolda
The Kolda health center has a new health development committee. This newly installed team has conducted an assessment to determine what is working and what is not. According to Vieux Bounly Diédhiou, the newly appointed president of the health development committee, the findings are ultimately bleak and disheartening.
In this healthcare facility, the morgue has been out of service for years. And no recovery plan has been implemented by the outgoing team. All the deceased are transferred to the regional hospital morgue or to mosques in certain neighborhoods that have cold storage facilities. This is exacerbating the anger of the local population.
Then, the non-functional toilets add to the list of problems plaguing the Kolda health center. With a faulty water connection, some departments, like the maternity ward, struggle to receive this precious resource. This heavy burden requires the new team to roll up their sleeves and tighten their belts to bring comfort to patients and their families.
At the Kolda health center, the payroll is unsustainable, according to Vieux Bounly Diédhiou, who also states that social welfare cases are straining the center's budget. As a result, this new team, starting its operations with just over 3 million FCFA in cash, has a debt of nearly 20 million FCFA to settle. Furthermore, the electricity supply is unreliable in some areas of the health center.
