Saint-Louis : Une réunion d’urgence après 4 décès dus à la fièvre de la Vallée du Rift
The governor of the Saint-Louis region, Al Hassane Sall, chaired a meeting with health officials yesterday, Thursday, to develop an action plan to address the Rift Valley fever epidemic, which has already caused four deaths in the region out of a total of seven confirmed cases.
"We therefore brought together the regional committee to discuss the Rift Valley fever disease, which has been occurring in the Saint-Louis region for at least a week. Faced with this situation, it seemed necessary to bring together all stakeholders, including technicians from the Ministry of Health and Public Hygiene, those from the Ministry in charge of Livestock, but also stakeholders from the parks and others to discuss the issue in the presence of community stakeholders as well as other administrative bodies. So, it was necessary to take measures to regulate the scourge, control the epidemic, but above all, prevent its spread," he explained.
Thus, the governor of Saint-Louis calls for vigilance and invites all stakeholders to mobilize to eradicate this epidemic before the start of the school year in Saint-Louis, according to Sud Fm.
"We wouldn't want to start the school year with this epidemic on our hands."
In this regard, Al Hassane Sall emphasizes: "We have emphasized prevention, treatment, the availability of means of prevention and treatment, awareness-raising and communication, but above all large-scale spraying." "We will not limit ourselves to the department of Saint-Louis, because, as we have already mentioned, one of the deceased patients came from a village near Sakal in the Louga region. We therefore fear that the disease will not reach the department of Saint-Louis."
He assures that the spraying operation will therefore be a large-scale operation. "We will also emphasize community engagement. We have also considered the possibility of quickly activating the CTE to deal with the various cases that arise at the health facilities," he added.
Finally, the governor requested the creation of a file on the disease and expressed his wish that "with all the actors, this epidemic be controlled, dominated, defeated, eradicated before the opening of classes, before the start of the university year, because obviously these are periods of risk and we would not want to start the school year with this epidemic in our hands."
