132 migrants secourus par la Marine nationale sénégalaise au large de Dakar
The Senegalese Navy conducted a high-seas rescue operation on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, saving 132 people in a situation of irregular migration. The distressed vessel, a wooden fishing boat known locally as a pirogue, was located approximately 150 kilometers (93 miles) off the coast of Dakar.
The would-be emigrants were attempting to reach foreign destinations clandestinely, risking their lives in particularly precarious and overcrowded conditions.
After being taken aboard the naval vessel, the migrants were transported to the Admiral Faye Gassama Naval Base, where they were safely disembarked. They were subsequently handed over to the relevant authorities for identification, assistance, and follow-up procedures.
