A Nigerian national was arrested in Tambacounda for human trafficking through sexual exploitation and pimping. Her arrest was triggered by a complaint filed by one of her compatriots.

On May 2, 2026, a Nigerian national, B. Chukwun, presented herself to the officers of the Surveillance, Interrogation, and Tracking Bureau of the DNLT (National Directorate for the Fight Against Terrorism) branch in Tambacounda to denounce the actions of a fellow Nigerian named Glory Ekpenyong Uti, alias "Zeynab." She revealed that the latter had brought her from Nigeria in March 2025, under the pretext of finding her a job as a saleswoman in a supermarket.

Upon arriving in Tambacounda, she was forced into prostitution and compelled to repay 2,500,000 CFA francs, presented as the cost of her journey. After a year of repeated payments totaling 1,630,000 CFA francs, B. Chukwun refused to pay the remaining balance of 870,000 CFA francs, deeming the exploitation she was enduring unjust. In retaliation, Glory Ekpenyong Uti allegedly sought the services of a traditional healer, a "Juju man" based in Nigeria, to cast a spell on her if she refused to settle her debt or alerted the police.

Suspecting human trafficking, investigators set up surveillance around the suspect's home in the Liberté neighborhood of Tambacounda. Glory Ekpenyong Uti, 24, a prostitute, was arrested at her residence. A search of the premises yielded a cell phone, condoms, a tube of lubricant, a sum of money likely derived from her work, and a fake Nigerian identity card produced in Benin, according to Seneweb sources.

When questioned, Glory Ekpenyong Uti readily admitted to the charges. She confirmed that she had purchased B. Chukwun in association with a fellow Nigerian woman named "Blessing" and an intermediary named "Felicia," based in Nigeria, for 440,000 CFA francs, with the intention of profiting from the transaction. She also admitted to using a witch doctor to threaten her victim. She stated that the sum already paid, 1,700,000 CFA francs according to her account, had been shared equally with her fellow Nigerian woman, "Blessing."

Glory Ekpenyong Uti was brought before the High Court of Tambacounda on charges of human trafficking through sexual exploitation and pimping. Requests were sent to telephone operators to determine the extent of her network.
