400 kg de cyanure, 250 kg de zinc saisis et trois arrestations : le coup de filet du Commissariat de Kidira
Police officers from the Kidira Special Police Station struck hard. A routine patrol turned into a major raid against the trafficking of chemicals intended for illegal gold mining.
On March 31, 2026, at 6:00 a.m., police officers from the Diyabougou station spotted a suspicious convoy at an unofficial border crossing known as "GMI Elements." The discovery there was striking: 400 kg of cyanide and 250 kg of zinc, highly toxic products essential for gold processing, smuggled from Kayes, Mali, aboard four motorcycles.
The escape of two smugglers
As law enforcement approached, two of the four smugglers fled, abandoning their motorcycles and cargo. Less fortunate, their two accomplices and the intended recipient of the goods were apprehended immediately. The four motorcycles were seized at once.
The investigation reveals that these products were destined for the illegal gold mining sites of Diyabougou and Soréto. This organized network, supplied from Mali, was smuggled into Senegal via back roads, according to Seneweb sources.
At the end of the procedure, the three accused were brought before the public prosecutor at the High Court of Tambacounda on Friday, April 3, 2026. The two fugitives are still being sought.
