Act In Space 2026: l’ASES célèbre les champions du monde sénégalais et appelle les jeunes vers les sciences
The Senegalese Agency for Space Studies (ASES) celebrated the world champions of the Act In Space 2026 hackathon on Friday, April 24, 2026. At the reception held in honor of the winners, the Director General, Maram Kaïré, stated that this victory by students from the Dakar American University of Science and Technology (DAUST) validates a strategy based on strengthened institutional support, quality mentoring, and the mobilization of young talent. "Strong institutional support, good mentoring, and competent young people are all it takes to meet international challenges," he emphasized.
In this regard, Maram Kaïré called on young people to pursue scientific fields more actively. "Winning the world championship sends a strong message to all young people. We need to show them that career opportunities exist. If they understand that science can offer them job prospects, they will be more committed to it," he stated.
The winners, for their part, expressed their pride after this international distinction. "Being world champions is a source of pride for us. It's not just for our school, it's for all of Senegal," said Maurice, a fourth-year computer science student at DAUST. He also emphasized the significance of this achievement, accomplished against some twenty countries.
Beyond this achievement, ASES aims to make Senegal a fully-fledged space nation. According to the Director General, in less than three years, the country has established itself in international discussions through "space diplomacy," while also achieving encouraging technical results.
At the international level, Senegal intends to strengthen its collaboration with NASA, particularly within the framework of the Artemis 2 program. Technical solutions are being prepared, with the ambition of directly involving young Senegalese engineers.
As a reminder, the students presented a solution called Interstellar, designed to accelerate the processing and transmission of satellite data to Earth. The goal is to quickly transform this raw data into actionable information capable of generating high-impact alerts.
The reception ceremony also brought together other institutions that participated in the national hackathon such as the Higher Polytechnic School (ESP), the Polytechnic School of Thies (EPT) or the Air Force.
