Affaire Azoura Fall : Ansoumana Dione interpelle l'État sur un possible internement abusif à Thiaroye
The placement of Azoura Fall at the Thiaroye Psychiatric Hospital has sparked a strong reaction from the Senegalese Association for Monitoring and Assisting the Mentally Ill (ASSAMM). Its president, Ansoumana Dione, denounces a situation he considers dubious and potentially unjust, demanding a full investigation into the conditions of the citizen's admission.
Ansoumana Dione raises a fundamental procedural question: did the judge have clinical evidence before deciding on the confinement?
"We are questioning whether the judge had access to the results of a medical examination that confirmed a mental illness at the time of the events."
He points out that without this document, the healthcare facility should never have accepted the patient: "If this were not the case, the Thiaroye Psychiatric Hospital had no right to receive him out of respect for Azoura Fall's fundamental rights."
Faced with what he describes as a "sad and serious situation", the president of ASSAMM directly appeals to the executive branch, including President Bassirou Diomaye Faye and his Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, as well as the Ministers of Justice and Health.
He is demanding immediate action to correct any potential judicial or medical error: "If he is not ill, he doesn't belong there, and if he is, a medical examination was certainly necessary."
Ansoumana Dione concluded by stating that this case deserves "thorough reflection", fearing that Azoura Fall may be "the victim of a great injustice".
