El Hadji Diouf sur le plateau de Seneweb
Appearing on Seneweb, lawyer El Hadji Diouf minced no words regarding the situation of Senegalese supporters still detained in Morocco after the Africa Cup of Nations.
According to him, Senegal has simply "sacrificed" its own citizens. "The president just needed to call the king and ask for the supporters' release," he stated, believing a direct diplomatic intervention could have resolved the situation.
The lawyer recalled that in the past, President Macky Sall had intervened for activists from the 'Y'en a marre' movement, highlighting a precedent for supporting Senegalese nationals abroad.
Beyond the diplomatic avenue, he also lamented a lack of legal assistance. "The state should have mobilized lawyers, including in Morocco. Today, it's as if only one lawyer is handling the case," he regretted.
El Hadji Diouf further denounced the attitude of the authorities and public opinion: "We cannot celebrate a Cup while our sons are in prison," he declared, pointing to a contrast he finds shocking between the public jubilation and the fate of the detainees.
On another note, the lawyer expressed deep frustration at having been sidelined from defending Senegal before the Court of Arbitration for Sport. He claims to have repeatedly tried to contact Federation officials, without success. "They are afraid of upsetting the country's leaders," he concluded, denouncing what he sees as opaque and politicized management.
