Approche de la Tabaski à Tivaouane : l'inquiétante recrudescence du vol de bétail met les éleveurs en alerte !

The surge in cattle rustling, particularly targeting small ruminants in the lead-up to Tabaski (Eid al-Adha), remains a source of concern for livestock farmers and local stakeholders in the Tivaouane department. Consequently, administrative authorities and defense and security forces have decided to strengthen collaboration to secure transport routes and better combat this phenomenon. The Livestock Department has issued a warning to the public regarding cattle rustling.

The strengthening of health surveillance and livestock movement control measures was also announced. The head of the departmental livestock service, Samba Camara, reassured the public: “Veterinary teams are being deployed to markets and assembly points to ensure the good health of animals intended for sale. They are conducting awareness campaigns among breeders and traders on compliance with veterinary standards and good sanitary practices.”

Regarding the Tabaski forecasts, the Livestock Department reports that "the supply of sheep is reassuring," although it did warn that "price increases are likely, linked to the cost of livestock feed." Samba Camara reassures: "The supply dynamics of sheep for the Tabaski market are encouraging in the Tivaouane department and are higher than at the same time last year."

He continued: “Current indicators are reassuring compared to those of last year at the same time. The number of sheep recorded to date is higher than at the same time last year. Technical teams are monitoring sheep arrivals at livestock markets daily to prevent any supply shortages.” The head of the departmental Livestock Service also noted that the flow of animals remains strong at the various sales points in the department and is expected to increase further as we approach the festival, a period of high demand in the markets.
