Arnaque aux appels silencieux : attention à cette nouvelle escroquerie qui utilise l’IA pour vous piéger et récupérer votre voix
Silent calls are becoming increasingly common and are far more dangerous than you might think. This new scam aims to use your voice to analyze it for artificial intelligence, thus defrauding you in the process.
A new scam is worrying many people. Calls from unknown numbers could be far more dangerous than they seem. A cybersecurity expert has revealed that a new type of fraud is wreaking havoc. Now, simply answering "hello?" on the phone could be detrimental.
This "silent call" scam may seem harmless at first glance, but in reality, it can use your voice against you to trap you. It's quite simple. When you answer, the caller doesn't speak. That's when you start to get impatient, asking this mystery caller if they can hear you and what they want from you. Faced with no response, you decide to hang up in annoyance. The call lasted only a few seconds, but it allowed the person on the other end to record you and thus capture the sound of your voice.
The sound of your voice recorded to be submitted to the AI
The cybersecurity expert explained to Bitdefender that, during this silent call, the caller takes the opportunity to validate your number by marking it as "active." Once your voice is recorded, they can use it on the dark web or spoof your voice using artificial intelligence. They can then use your voice to deceive others by asking for their bank details, for example.
These fraudulent calls don't always come from unknown or blocked numbers, making fraud detection much more difficult. The best way to avoid having your personal information extracted is therefore to answer the phone silently, not to answer "yes," and above all, not to give out your name.
