Assemblée nationale : Ousmane Sonko recadre Mame Mactar Guèye et lui retire sa garde rapprochée
In responding to questions during the current affairs session at the National Assembly, Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko also took a swipe at Mame Mactar Guèye for his public stances on the issue of homosexuality.
Without naming him directly, Ousmane Sonko denounced the attitude of "certain people" who, according to him, are setting themselves up as moral authorities on the subject. "There are people who believe they are the elected officials authorized to speak about homosexuality. They are going too far," he declared before the members of parliament.
The head of government strongly disapproved of the publication of names of people presented as homosexual. "Nothing authorizes them to publish people's names under the pretext that they are homosexual. This is a matter of state sovereignty, and the authorities are there to handle it," he insisted, reiterating that dealing with these matters falls exclusively under the purview of the state and the competent institutions.
Following this, Ousmane Sonko revealed that he had personally requested the withdrawal of security protection provided to the activist. "When I heard that security had been assigned to him, I asked the Ministry of the Interior to withdraw it," he stated. The Prime Minister is adamant regarding individual initiatives that he considers excessive, while reaffirming the institutional and sovereign nature of managing matters related to public order and law enforcement.
