Bains mystiques, kheulwa et prières à 500 millions : Le charlatan Malick Baldé extrait de Rebeuss pour une nouvelle affaire
Marabout or con artist? Already sentenced to five years in prison and ordered to pay 800 million CFA francs in damages, Malick Baldé, also known as Thierno or Abdoulaye Diallo, could see his case worsen. According to Seneweb, this 52-year-old traditional healer, residing in Liberté 6, is appearing again this Thursday before the correctional chamber of the financial judicial unit. In this new proceeding, he is being prosecuted for fraud and quackery involving 500 million CFA francs, to the detriment of MAKB.
Regarding the facts
According to the investigation report, the complainant filed a complaint with the Criminal Investigation Division (DIC) on March 13, 2025. In his letter, MAKB accuses the marabout of having extorted large sums of money from him over several years. According to his statements, Malick Baldé exerted undue influence over him by offering prayers, mystical baths, and spiritual retreats called "Kheulwa," notably in Gambia, at a location presented as sacred. The marabout also dangled the prospect of financial success before him, mentioning an alleged partnership with Saudi investors in a gold trading venture.
Convinced, the plaintiff claims to have paid up to 500 million FCFA, in cash, via family intermediaries or by mobile money transfer.
Questioned by investigators after being brought from Rebeuss prison, where he has been incarcerated since November 2024 for similar offenses, Malick Baldé categorically denied the accusations. He acknowledged knowing the victim but maintained that the payments were made voluntarily, as alms or voluntary contributions to prayer expenses. He retorted that he had always offered only prayers, never baths or magic potions. However, Baldé claimed a much lower amount, estimating that he received a maximum of 13 million CFA francs, and stated that he was ready to reimburse the money.
A confrontation was organized by the investigating officers. Both sides remained entrenched in their positions. In their report, the police noted contradictions in the statements. They specified that Ms. Aïssatou Diop, mentioned in the case, could not be questioned, as she is currently outside the country.
Presented as a repeat offender and charlatan, Malick Baldé is currently serving a five-year prison sentence for fraud. This time, he will have to convince the financial court to avoid another conviction.
