The Bignona district police station has dismantled an organized network specializing in the theft and illegal resale of goods. Eight individuals were arrested in connection with this case involving the theft of bags of pepper valued at over 5 million CFA francs.

The events date back to the night of April 4-5, 2026, following a complaint filed for the theft of 39 bags of pepper. Initial findings by investigators revealed no signs of forced entry, quickly leading suspicions to focus on an operation involving individuals familiar with the premises.

Thanks to evidence collected at the scene, police were able to locate some of the stolen goods in a nearby building. This discovery, along with physical evidence, led to the identification of the first suspects.

The investigation accelerated with the arrest of two individuals caught in the act, including the driver of a tricycle used to transport the stolen bags. The suspected ringleader was subsequently arrested. After initially denying involvement, he eventually confessed, revealing that the theft had been carried out in several stages.

The investigation also uncovered a structured resale network. An intermediary allegedly organized the distribution of the products to local retailers. Four of them were arrested and admitted to purchasing the merchandise without being able to produce invoices.

Another suspect, described as a receiver of stolen goods, was questioned. Despite audio evidence deemed incriminating, he denied any involvement and was released due to insufficient evidence at this stage.

According to police sources, the main suspect and one of his accomplices are already known to the services for similar offenses, while the other people arrested had no reported prior record.

The suspects, placed in police custody, had their detention extended in accordance with applicable procedures. Meanwhile, the search continues actively for a fugitive receiver of stolen goods, considered a key figure in the criminal network.
