Bilan Gendarmerie 2025 : Entre baisse de la migration irrégulière et explosion de l'insécurité routière

The High Command of the National Gendarmerie, led by General Martin Faye, Director of Military Justice, presented the institution's activity report for 2025. This period was marked by significant security challenges, but also by results deemed substantial. According to General Faye, 2025 confirmed the Gendarmerie's unwavering commitment to the safety of people and property, as well as the stability of the national territory.

The institution has strengthened its territorial network with a structure comprising 9 legions, 27 companies, more than 200 territorial brigades, and some sixty fully operational mobile squadrons. "This increased presence has made it possible to consolidate the authority of the State in all regions and improve the response to security threats. The command emphasizes that these results reflect the professionalism and dedication of the personnel, committed to the republican values of discipline, loyalty, and a sense of honor."

Migration and trafficking: a frontal battle against the networks

The fight against irregular migration remains a strategic priority. “In 2025, Gendarmerie units thwarted 44 attempts at clandestine departure and intercepted 2,750 migrants, representing an estimated 8% decrease compared to previous years.” Furthermore, 72 smugglers involved in organizing departures were arrested, demonstrating the gradual dismantling of smuggling networks. Regarding narcotics, 5,238 kilograms of cannabis were seized, while 730 kilograms of cocaine were intercepted in Dakar. “To strengthen the response to transnational crime, new specialized units have been created, particularly in the eastern part of the country, with the establishment of research sections and rapid intervention units.”

The scourge of road insecurity and rural crime

Despite intensified operations, road safety remains a major concern, with a 44% increase in accidents in areas under the jurisdiction of the Gendarmerie. The report details 7,522 recorded accidents, resulting in 12,658 injuries and a 24% increase in fatalities. According to the High Command, this situation is "largely linked to the normalization of risky behavior among some road users." Regarding rural crime, it remains dominated by cattle theft, which accounts for 62% of recorded offenses, although the recovery rate remains low, estimated at only 3%.

Environment and social dramas

The preservation of natural resources is also a priority, with the seizure of 2,150 planks of wood from illegal logging. The report also notes a surge in tragic events, with 833 cases recorded, an increase of over 20%. The discovery of bodies, drownings, and suicides are the most frequent incidents, requiring "strengthened prevention strategies and psychological support for vulnerable populations."

Focusing on modernization and future challenges

Despite encouraging results, General Martin Faye emphasizes the need to continue efforts to consolidate these gains. The institution is committed to implementing the 2025-2029 strategic plan, in line with the "Senegal 2050 Vision." Beyond the figures, the National Gendarmerie intends to pursue its mission with a focus on community engagement and transparency, reaffirming its commitment to guaranteeing peace and security throughout the national territory.
