In Boutoupa-Camaracounda, a village in the Niaguis district, the well has been dry for days. As a result, the taps are completely dry, much to the dismay of the residents. A malfunction in the solar power system is the cause of the problem.

According to Ismaïla Diamé, a resident of the area, this situation has been ongoing for almost a week. It is reportedly due to another breakdown at the well, following a previous one experienced by the local population a few months ago.

"Two or three months ago, we experienced the same problem. It was the pump that was broken. The pump was repaired. Today, as I speak to you, we are in the same situation. We are told that it is the panel that is broken. The population is struggling to find water," said Ismaïla Diamé, interviewed by our colleagues at Zig FM.

To find the precious liquid during this period of Ramadan and Lent, one has to sweat, he adds. In Boutoupa-Camaracounda, the villages connected to the borehole are forced to revert to old practices to find water, especially since the taps no longer flow, the young man testifies.

A second well to meet the high demand

The borehole cannot meet the high water demand in Boutoupa-Camaracounda, reports Ismaïla Diamé, president of the Yabone youth association. "We are appealing to our authorities to come to our aid because we see that this borehole cannot meet all the demand. Currently, water is in very high demand, and this borehole is struggling to truly help these residents. We are asking our authorities to provide us with a second borehole that will truly alleviate the suffering of the population," urged young Diamé.

The Minister of Water Resources and the Prime Minister have been called upon to address this social grievance. Residents of the Boutoupa-Camaracounda area say they have suffered from this water problem for years and hope their plea will be heard.
