Casamance : Résilience et jeunesse au cœur du Vivre Ensemble en Paix

On the occasion of the International Day of Living Together in Peace, proclaimed by the UN on May 16, Casamance distinguished itself through a strong mobilization of religious and community associations united under the banner of FEDARCC. In a region long marked by the wounds of conflict, this day takes on a particular resonance: it becomes a space for dialogue, tolerance and solidarity, but also a laboratory for resilience.

Resilience as the key to peace

In his opening remarks, the president of FEDARCC, Chérif Boun Chamsidine Aïdara, emphasized that peace is not merely the absence of violence, but is built upon the capacity of communities to overcome trauma and transform tensions into opportunities for cooperation. Resilience, he stressed, rests on essential pillars. Acceptance and respect for cultural and religious differences constitute one of the primary pillars, according to the FEDARCC president. Chérif Cheikh Boun Chamsidine Aïdara emphasized the importance of dialogue and active listening to defuse tensions, as well as social solidarity in the face of crises. He also stressed the importance of education in the values of tolerance and non-violence.

According to him, these foundations should guide local initiatives and strengthen social cohesion in a region seeking lasting stability.

Youth, the driving force of the future

The second focus of the panel, entrusted to the regional director of family affairs, Mariama Diallo, highlighted the central role of youth.

In Casamance, young people are both the inheritors of past wounds and the builders of a peaceful future. Their involvement in educational, cultural, and community projects is a vital force for consolidating peace and promoting an inclusive society.

A universal message, a Casamance reality

The International Day of May 16th, celebrated worldwide, takes on a unique dimension in Casamance: it becomes a symbol of reconciliation and rebirth. As Chérif Aïdara reminded us, resilience is not simply survival, but an active transformation towards a harmonious society, where diversity and solidarity combine to build a shared future.

Quoting Nelson Mandela, "The greatest glory in life lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall," the president of FEDARCC invited the Casamance communities to persevere on the path of peace, with courage and hope.
