Ci La Ñu Bokk s’insurge : pas une femme dans les rues renommées de Dakar-Plateau
The Consultation Framework for the Respect and Preservation of Women's Rights - Ci La Ñu Bokk deplores the absence of female figures in the recent initiative to rename streets in the commune of Dakar-Plateau.
While the town hall chose to honor several major Senegalese figures, no women were selected, a decision that the collective considers a “serious omission from collective memory.”
"This erasure of women from the public sphere is not trivial. It perpetuates a historical imbalance and makes invisible the essential contributions of women to the construction of Senegal. Recognizing the place of women in toponymy is neither a privilege nor a gesture of complacency. It is an act of justice, memory, and democratic equity," reads a press release from the consultation framework sent to Seneweb.
The organization calls on the Dakar-Plateau city hall and all the country's municipalities to correct this inequality by including in the list of names women who have marked the history of Senegal through their commitment, knowledge and leadership.
"In support of the Collective of Women Leaders of Dakar-Plateau and wherever women remain underrepresented in the collective memory, we reaffirm our commitment to inclusive, civic-minded and equitable cities, where the memory of women finally finds its place," maintains the Consultation Framework for the Respect and Preservation of Women's Rights - Ci La Ñu Bokk.
