Citoyenneté et sécurité : La Police Nationale lance le projet « Edupolsen » à Fatick

On Monday, May 11, 2026, the National Police officially launched the Senegalese Police Education Project (Edupolsen) at the Coumba Ndoffene Diouf High School in Fatick. This ceremony, marked by a flag-raising, represents the fourth stage of the national rollout of this innovative program.

Initiated by Inspector Mame Seydou Ndour, Director General of the National Police, in partnership with the Ministry of National Education and actors such as UNAPES and COSYDEP, this project aims to break down the barrier between law enforcement and the population, by primarily targeting the school environment.

A mission of awareness-raising and deconstruction

Edupolsen's central objective is to transform young people's perception of the police. In Fatick, the security services plan to increase their visits to schools to present their professions, but above all to raise students' awareness of current scourges: drug use, road safety, cybercrime, and irregular migration.

The high school principal, Arfang Sarr, praised the initiative as "innovative and relevant." According to him, this collaboration helps educate young people on issues that "corrupt youth and undermine security." This view was shared by Mbacké Thioune, Secretary General of the Fatick Regional Education Authority, who sees the project as an opportunity to "deconstruct the negative perceptions" sometimes associated with the police.

Prevention is better than cure.

Commissioner Malick Dieng, head of the regional public security service in Fatick, emphasized that police action should not be solely repressive. "We are not here to talk about arrests, but about civic education. The police act upstream: prevention is better than cure, education is better than punishment," he explained.

The project is based on a dual ambition: to bring the police to the school and the school to the police. For Commissioner Dieng, it is about helping students become responsible citizens by instilling in them survival skills, such as road safety or the responsible use of the internet.

Addressing families, the commissioner encouraged parents to actively participate in extending these lessons at home. He concluded his speech with a message of encouragement to the students: "Stay in school, work hard to become someone tomorrow."

Through Edupolsen, the National Police reaffirms its commitment to supporting Senegalese schools in their mission to train healthy and conscious youth, the foundation of the country's future development.
