Commune de Guédé Village : Plus de 800 ha ravagés par un violent feu de brousse
Bushfires continue to spread in the Podor department, causing significant environmental and economic damage. In recent days, an unusually intense fire has devastated over 800 hectares of vegetation in the areas of Biddi, Belel Kelle, and Gawdé Boofé, two hamlets belonging to the municipality of Guédé Village. In less than a week, three bushfires have been reported in this area.
According to initial reports from local residents, the flames spread rapidly due to the wind, making it difficult for the emergency responders to control the blaze. Shrubs, dry grass, grazing land, and parts of the farmland were reduced to ashes, jeopardizing the livelihoods of many families.
Local authorities have been warning for several weeks about the resurgence of fires in the northern region. The lack of equipment to effectively fight these fires, combined with risky behaviors, often linked to pastoral or agricultural activities, is exacerbating the situation.
In Guédé Village, the population is calling on the State and the relevant services to strengthen the measures for preventing and fighting bushfires.
