S. Diop, a mechanic by profession, appeared before the Thiès court of flagrant offenses for driving under the influence of alcohol, endangering the lives of others and driving without a license.
According to the investigation, he struck Mr. Thiam, a motorcycle taxi driver, while driving a vehicle, causing serious injuries that resulted in the amputation of his leg. Police officers who responded to the scene stated that they found a bottle of alcohol in the suspect's possession.
In court, S. Diop admitted to the accident, while maintaining that the responsibility lay with the other driver, whom he accused of hitting him. He also denied being intoxicated, claiming that the bottle found on him contained a non-alcoholic beverage.
The victim's father told the court that his son is still receiving medical treatment due to the severity of his injuries.
The public prosecutor considered the defendant guilty of the acts and requested two months of imprisonment.
The judge found him guilty of driving without a license and endangering the lives of others. He was sentenced to three months in prison.
