Seven goats found dead in Guitir Sérère
On the evening of Tuesday, April 28, Siga Sène, Ndick Sarr, Duira Ndione, and Aliou Faye, all residents of the village of Guitir Sérère, discovered their animals were missing. After several hours of searching, they finally found their seven dead goats in the field of farmer Ibrahima Thior, a resident of the same village.
Following a heated exchange, the victims informed the village chief before filing a complaint against Ibrahima Thior for poisoning. When questioned by investigators, the accused denied all charges, while lamenting that animals regularly grazed on his cassava leaves. However, a search of his home led to the seizure of an unlicensed firearm. He was brought before the prosecutor in Mbour on charges of livestock poisoning and illegal possession of a firearm.
A second case in Godaguène: the farmer confesses
On the same day, a similar scenario unfolded in the village of Godaguène. Farmer Demba Gningue is accused of poisoning two goats belonging to herder Lamine Faye, while they were wandering in his mango orchard.
After finding her livestock dead on Gningue's farm, the victim confronted the farmer. He confessed, admitting to using "Lannate" mixed with another toxic product to kill the animals. Despite his apologies and offer to compensate for the losses, Demba Gningue was also brought before the prosecutor in Mbour.
