This is the wish of the residents of the commune of Notto-Gouye-Diama, in the Tivaouane department. A call to put an end to these crazy races observed every weekend on the Niayes road, at the exit of the beach, which has become a gathering place for many young people, particularly from Thiès.
Young people who, after a day spent on the beach (Grande Côte) between games, sports activities and impromptu matches, return to the road in disorderly convoys, often punctuated by high-speed chases.
A local resident reports that on October 5, near the village of Darou Alpha, a motorcyclist violently collided with a motorcycle traveling in the opposite direction. The driver and his passenger were seriously injured and taken to the Ahmadou Sakhir Ndiéyène Regional Hospital in Thiès.
And to prevent further tragedies, these populations are calling for increased surveillance on the roads leading to Notto-Gouye-Diama beach, which is already weakened by coastal erosion and violent waves.
