Crue du fleuve Falémé : Saiensoutou à son tour frappé, les populations en détresse
The rising waters of the Falémé River continue to wreak havoc in the Saraya department. After Kolia, visited by administrative authorities on Thursday, it is now the village of Saiensoutou, in the commune of Missirah Sirimana, which is paying a heavy price for this recurring flooding.
In this locality, several concessions were submerged, forcing entire families to leave their homes. Local economic activities were not spared: many businesses were invaded by the waters, increasing the precariousness of the inhabitants. An elderly retiree, visibly affected, testifies: "I lost more than 150 mango plants and banana trees in my orchard."
Faced with this alarming situation, the village chief, El Hadj Kamokhoye Cissokho, launched an urgent appeal to the authorities and humanitarian partners: "Our people are experiencing a very difficult situation. We ask the authorities to come to the aid of the victims in order to alleviate their suffering."
Every year, the flooding of the Falémé River plunges riverside villages into distress, causing significant material and agricultural damage. In both Kolia and Saiensoutou, residents express their weariness of reliving the same scenario without any lasting preventive measures being put in place.
While all eyes remain on the authorities, residents are waiting for urgent responses to deal with the immediate consequences of the disaster, but also for structural solutions to end this cycle of desolation.
