Dakar : 1325 litres d’huiles usagées saisis par la brigade d’hygiène à la Médina
A large seizure of cooking oil unfit for consumption was carried out in the Medina district by the Dakar Regional Hygiene Brigade , led by Captain Idrissa Ndiaye. A total of 1,325 liters of used oil were recovered following the action of a tip-off.
According to hygiene officials, this operation is part of the increased patrols implemented in the Dakar region. This approach is presented as an innovation in the fight against practices that pose risks to public health.
He collected oil from restaurants to resell.
When questioned at the scene, the suspect's statements were inconsistent. Initially, he claimed to have collected the oil from various restaurants to resell at low prices. Taken to the police station, he then changed his story, stating that he intended to supply it to a small-scale soap factory in the Kolda region. This explanation was deemed implausible by the officers after several interrogations.
Health authorities have charged him with the offence of offering for sale products unfit for consumption, resulting in a sanction in accordance with the regulations in force.
The hygiene department affirms that it maintains constant vigilance in order to protect the public. It also commends the cooperation of citizens, whose reports contribute to these interventions, and reaffirms its commitment to combating illegal practices, particularly in bakeries and clandestine water production units.
